Biography
Following 16 years in rural Northeast Louisiana as a private practitioner in Medical Oncology/Hematology (1981-1997), Dr Anderson transitioned to the National Cancer Institute (NCI) through the Cancer Prevention Fellowship Program (CPFP) of the Division of Cancer Prevention (DCP). The CPFP provided support for an MPH degree in Epidemiology that was followed by mentored research training at the NCI (1998-2000). After the CPFP, Dr Anderson was a Medical Officer in DCP (2000-2005) and continued his epidemiology research in collaboration with investigators in the Division of Cancer Epidemiology and Genetics (DCEG). In May 2005, Dr. Anderson joined DCEG’s Biostatistics Branch (BB) as a principle investigator to develop a research program in descriptive epidemiology that was supplemented with biostatistical models including two-component mixture models, estimates of absolute age-specific relative risks with graphical representations of qualitative (crossover) age interactions, age-period-cohort models, spline-based survival models, incidence based mortality, and counterfactual (“What if ?”) methods for the assessment of cancer disparities.
