Overview
The Laboratory of Translational Genomics is committed to understanding the contribution of germline genetic variation to cancer etiology and outcomes. Using large-scale genome-wide association studies and familial linkage studies in high-risk families, investigators continue to identify loci within the genome that are associated with cancer risk.
The Laboratory maintains a strong partnership with the
Cancer Genetic Markers of Susceptibility (CGEMS) project. Since its launch in 2005, CGEMS has developed into a robust research program involving genome-wide scans for a number of cancers, including breast, prostate, pancreatic, lung, ovarian, bladder, and renal cell cancers.
Essential to the mission of the Laboratory is a close collaboration with the NCI-Frederick Core Genotyping Facility. The Core Genotyping Facility designs and conducts high throughput sequencing, genotyping, and analysis in support of large scale epidemiologic studies.
