HREB is pleased to announce that Dr. Katherine McGlynn has been appointed as Deputy Chief of the Hormonal and Reproductive Epidemiology Branch (HREB). Her expertise in molecular epidemiology is well recognized, with training including an M.P.H. in population studies from Tulane University, a Ph.D. in epidemiology from the University of Pennsylvania, and postdoctoral research at Fox Chase Cancer Center. She served as a faculty member at Fox Chase prior to joining DCEG, where she was tenured as a senior investigator in 2008. In 2010 her scientific accomplishments were recognized by election to the American Epidemiological Society. In addition to scientific expertise, Dr. McGlynn brings considerable administrative expertise to the Branch, having served as Chair of the DCEG Committee of Scientists for the last four years. It is anticipated that she will assume responsibility for several activities in the Branch, including oversight of HREB’s Distinguished Lecturer program, scientific presentations at Branch meetings, and assurance of compliance with requirements for the proper conduct of studies (e.g., IRB clearances, technology transfer procedures, project officer training). She will also assist with recruitment activities and the mentorship and training of newer staff in the Branch.
