Jonathan Samet Gives NIH Gordon Lecture

In May, Dr. Jonathan Samet, a professor and the Flora L. Thornton Chair of the Department of Preventive Medicine at the Keck School of Medicine and Director of the Institute for Global Health at the University of Southern California, presented the annual NIH Robert S. Gordon, Jr., Lecture in Epidemiology. A former member of the NCI Board of Scientific Counselors, Dr. Samet was recently appointed to the National Cancer Advisory Board.

His lecture, "Big epidemiology for big problems," focused on characterizing the role of epidemiologic evidence in scientific problem solving and on creating systems-based approaches that inform medical and public health practice.

This lecture series was established in 1995 as a tribute to Dr. Gordon for his distinguished service in coordinating prevention-related research and clinical trials across NIH. To view Dr. Samet's lecture, go to http://go.usa.gov/8UB.
