Physical Activity and Lung Cancer in Current, Former, and Never Smokers

  • The NIH-AARP Diet and Health Study examined physical activity in relation to lung cancer histologic types by smoking status among approximately 500,000 men and women aged 50-71 years at baseline in 1995-1996.
  • During follow-up to 2003, nearly 7,000 lung carcinomas occurred.
  • Increased physical activity appeared to be associated with a decrease in the risk of lung carcinoma.
