Data Analyst in Epidemiology

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team at the Integrated Tumor Epidemiology Branch (ITEB), National Cancer Institute as a data analyst. We are seeking an individual with strong analytical skills who wants to be immersed in a dynamic and collaborative research group in the intramural Division of Cancer Epidemiology & Genetics. The analyst will work on large- scale integrative data analyses of cancer risk factors applying novel statistical methodologies to inform cancer prevention and clinical strategies. Analyses will include germline genetics and tissue profiling, including somatic genomics, tissue imaging, and histopathology. This is a critical position in our research team and offers outstanding opportunities for professional development, including working on high-impact research in large international consortia, learning novel statistical methodologies, experience with data science tools and technologies, having a leading role in publications, and abundant networking opportunities. The Data Analyst will work under the direction of Montserrat Garcia-Closas, senior investigator, ITEB Acting Chief and DCEG Deputy Director.

Qualifications: Candidates must have a Master’s or Ph.D. degree in biostatistics, epidemiology, applied math, computer science, or a related quantitative field. At least one year of professional experience is preferred but is not a requirement. Experience in R programming is required and experience working in other programming languages such as Python or SAS is desired. Candidates must have excellent analytical skills and written and oral (English) communication, a scientific background, be well organized, have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse individuals and organizations, exhibit excellent problem- solving skills and multi-tasking ability, be team-oriented and have experience with producing deliverables under tight deadlines. Proficiency in preparing figures, charts, data presentations, and working knowledge of bioinformatics is necessary.
