Budget Analyst (Contractor), DCEG Office of the Director - Rockville, Maryland

The Division of Cancer Epidemiology and Genetics (DCEG) of the National Cancer Institute (NCI) is recruiting a budget analyst to serve in the Office of the Director. We are seeking an individual with strong analytical skills and previous budget experience who wants to be a part of an interdisciplinary, collaborative scientific operations team. The budget analyst will be responsible for coordinating and providing support for budgetary functions and fiscal reporting for the Division and the Office of the Director. In this contract position, the incumbent will perform a wide range of analytical, technical and advisory functions related to the budgetary process. Duties will include budget planning, monitoring, and execution, including tracking project expenditures and budget amendments for the Division and the Office of the Director. The analyst will manage all financial and administrative matters related to contracts, major purchases, travel, and repository costs for the Office of the Director budget. In addition, the analyst will serve as the DCEG lead for fiscal reporting for NCI, NIH, and DHHS mandated annual reports. The duties of this critical position will integrate with and complement other research operations and planning tasks on the scientific operations team. 

Qualifications: Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree and prior budget experience; a master’s degree is preferred. Experience in government preferred, with general knowledge of applicable terminologies, budget cycle, and fiscal reporting. Candidates must have strong analytical skills and the ability to organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with excellent attention to detail and accuracy. Strong verbal and written communication skills and proficiency in preparing visual presentations of data and reports is necessary. Candidates must be able to respond to time sensitive requests independently, work well under pressure, and work with large amounts of fragmented data in a fast-paced environment.

Organization Description: NCI DCEG is the world’s most comprehensive cancer epidemiology research group. The Division carries out its research program to discover the genetic and environmental determinants of cancer and new approaches to cancer prevention with a cadre of in-house researchers and trainees. The scientific operations team within the DCEG Office of the Director aims to provide outstanding support and guidance on scientific, programmatic, and administrative processes and manage Division-wide resources to promote the success of DCEG staff and projects. This is a contract position at a government agency in Rockville, Maryland.
