Ruth M. Pfeiffer, Ph.D., senior investigator in the Biostatistics Branch, was elected a Fellow of the American Statistical Association (ASA) in recognition of her “wide-ranging contributions to statistical methods for modern epidemiologic studies; collaboration in major scientific studies; and service to the profession.”
The designation of Fellow has been a superlative honor of the ASA for nearly 100 years. Each year, the Committee on Fellows elects no more than one-third of 1 percent of the total ASA membership as fellows. ASA members nominate their fellow members for the honor. Fellows are selected based on their established reputations in the field and their outstanding contributions to statistical work. This year’s class of fellows will be honored at the 2013 Joint Statistical Meetings in Montreal, Canada, in August.
