Two DCEG Fellows Complete Diversity Career Development Program

Shakira Nelson and Fangyi Gu

In November 2016, Shakira Nelson, Ph.D., M.P.H., of the Metabolic Epidemiology Branch, and Fangyi Gu, M.Med., Sc.D., of the Occupational and Environmental Epidemiology Branch, graduated from the Diversity Career Development Program (DCDP). This 10-month program builds skills in leadership and research independence for NCI intramural postdoctoral fellows from underrepresented groups.

“The DCDP is an important part of NCI’s efforts to build and support a diverse biomedical research workforce,” said Jackie Lavigne, Ph.D., M.P.H., Chief of the Office of Education at DCEG.

Dr. Nelson is continuing her fellowship at DCEG, while Dr. Gu has accepted a position as a principal investigator at the Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo, NY.
