The American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) recognized DCEG postdoctoral fellows Jacqueline B. Vo, Ph.D., R.N., M.P.H., in the Radiation Epidemiology Branch (REB) and Jennifer McGee-Avila, Ph.D., M.P.H., C.H.E.S., C.P.H., in the Infections and Immunoepidemiology Branch (IIB) with the highly selective AACR Scholar-in-Training Award. This award aims to enhance the education and training of early-career scientists by providing financial support to attend AACR conferences. Selection is based on the strength of an applicant’s abstract and letter of recommendation. They will be presenting their work at the AACR Conference on The Science of Cancer Health Disparities in Racial/Ethnic Minorities and the Medically Underserved in September.

Dr. Vo’s abstract was selected for an oral presentation during the Hot Topics and Recent Discoveries: Presentations from the Top-Rated Abstracts session taking place between 11 AM to 12:30 PM on Sunday, September 18th. Her research examines racial and ethnic disparities in heart disease mortality among breast cancer survivors in the U.S., under the mentorship of Amy Berrington de González, D.Phil., senior investigator and former chief of REB.

Dr. McGee-Avila studies cancer risk among people living with HIV in the U.S., under the mentorship of Meredith Shiels, Ph.D., senior investigator in IIB.
