Ms. Michele Nehrebecky received a B.S. in nursing from the University of Maryland, Baltimore, in 1991, followed by an M.S. in nursing, also from the University of Maryland, in 1999. She received a post-masters at the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences (USUHS), Bethesda, Maryland, in 2006.

Ms. Nehrebecky joined the United States Public Health Service (USPHS) as a Commissioned Officer Student and Extern Program, and started her nursing career at the NIH Clinical Center with NCI's Surgery Branch. While earning her nurse practitioner certification, she worked in Medical Oncology. In 1999, she began as a nurse practitioner with NCI at the National Naval Medical Center, Bethesda, Maryland, under a cooperative cancer treatment research program. In 2008, she joined the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) and helped launch the Undiagnosed Diseases Program. In 2018, she joined the NHGRI Scientific Director's autoinflammatory diseases program's clinical team. She retired from the USPHS in 2020 after 30 years of service.

In 2022, Ms. Nehrebecky returned to the NCI to develop and manage a virtual cancer prevention clinic/program in the Center for Cancer Research. In 2024, she transitioned to the Clinical Genetics Branch to work as a nurse practitioner with the Fanconi Anemia screening and RASopathies studies.
