Tenure Track Seminar - Douglas Stewart, M.D.
DCEG Events
July 23, 2015 | 10:30 AM – 11:30 AM
NCI Shady Grove
Topic: Phenotype and Variation in Rare Tumor-Predisposition Disorders
Speaker: Douglas Stewart, M.D., Investigator
Clinical Genetics Branch
Division of Cancer Epidemiology and Genetics, National Cancer Institute
Description: Dr. Stewart's research program on hereditary cancers is comprised of three complementary projects: 1) characterization of the clinical phenotype, natural history and management of the DICER1 syndrome; 2) germline gene discovery and phenotype characterization of select rare, under-characterized, hereditary cancers; and 3) identification of phenotypic and somatic variation in neurofibromatosis types 1 and 2.
He combines medical genetics with genomics and bioinformatics to maximize discovery opportunities at NCI and collaboratively, with increasingly larger, population-sourced, clinically-annotated whole-exome and –genome datasets. The overarching goal of Dr. Stewart's research is to improve clinical care of individuals afflicted with rare cancers and, whenever possible, to leverage new knowledge to improve individual and public health.
