Armando Baena, Ph.D.

Armando Baena, Ph.D., joined DCEG as an ORISE Research Fellow in the Clinical Genetics Branch under the mentorship of Nicolas Wentzensen, M.D., Ph.D., M.S., senior investigator, in November 2024. He will be working on developing research related to anal cancer screening and natural history, with a focus on multi-state carcinogenesis models and real-world clinical data. 

Prior to joining DCEG, Dr. Baena worked at the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC/WHO) in Lyon, France, where he was a scientist leading various cancer prevention projects in Latin America and Africa. He earned his Ph.D. in Epidemiology from the Universidad de Antioquia, Medellín, Colombia, in 2018, with research on clinical management strategies for atypical cervical cytology in routine health services in Colombia.
