Filip Pirsl, Ph.D., Sc.M., joined DCEG as a postdoctoral fellow in the Clinical Genetics Branch under the mentorship of Shahinaz Gadalla, M.D., Ph.D., in July 2024. Dr. Pirsl earned a B.S. in biology from the University of Maryland, College Park, in 2012, followed by an Sc.M. in 2019 and Ph.D. in 2023 in cancer epidemiology from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in Baltimore, Maryland. In his doctoral dissertation, Dr. Pirsl investigated differences in prostate cancer screening and incidence by HIV status among Medicaid beneficiaries.

Prior to joining DCEG, Dr. Pirsl worked in the Immune Deficiency Cellular Therapy Program in the NCI Center for Cancer Research. In CGB, Dr. Pirsl is working on identifying associations of genetic markers with outcomes of hematopoietic stem cell transplant as well as sampling and healthy volunteer effects in cancer cohort studies.
