Shirsa Udgata, Ph.D.
Shirsa Udgata, Ph.D., joined DCEG in November 2025 as a postdoctoral fellow in the Laboratory of Translational Genomics (LTG) under the mentorship of Liudmila Prokunina-Olsson, Ph.D., LTG director and senior investigator.
Dr. Udgata earned a Ph.D. in cancer biology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in Madison, Wisconsin. Her doctoral research focused on using patient-derived cancer organoids as translational tools to study tumor heterogeneity, drug mechanism of action, and drug resistance for precision medicine strategies in colorectal cancer.
In LTG, Dr. Udgata is using CRISPR perturbations and patient-derived organoids to functionally link signals identified through genome-wide association studies (GWAS) to genes, with the goal of improving understanding of bladder cancer etiology and risk predictions.
