Jaewoong Joo, Ph.D., joined DCEG in December 2025 as a postdoctoral fellow in the Biostatistics Branch (BB) under the co-mentorship of Ruth Pfeiffer, Ph.D., senior investigator, and Li Cheung, Ph.D., Stadtman investigator.

Dr. Joo earned a Ph.D. in statistics from the University of Florida. His doctoral research focused on causal inference in integrating data from multiple observational studies.

In his doctoral research, Dr. Joo developed a meta-analytic framework to estimate the effects of risk factors on health outcomes when some important variables are omitted in each study.

In BB, Dr. Joo is developing statistical methods for analyzing molecular marker studies of early-onset breast cancer and building statistical microsimulation frameworks for oral cancer screening. His work aims to improve statistical modeling in cancer screening programs.
