Namhwa Lee, Ph.D.
Namhwa Lee, Ph.D., joined DCEG in December 2025 as a postdoctoral fellow in the Biostatistics Branch (BB) under the mentorship of Hyokyoung (Grace) Hong, Ph.D., senior investigator.
Dr. Lee earned a Ph.D. in applied statistics from the University of California, Riverside, in September 2025.
During his doctoral training, Dr. Lee focused on developing statistical methodologies to relax the strong no-unmeasured-confounding assumption in causal inference. He also developed longitudinal causal mediation and decomposition methods incorporating a dynamic treatment regime to support precision treatment strategies.
In BB, Dr. Lee is developing and applying statistical methods, with particular emphasis on machine learning. His research also explores statistical approaches to understand causal pathways of cancer-related biomarkers and estimate the causal effects of treatment. His work aims to advance understanding of fairness, transferability, and causal pathways in cancer research.
