NCI Shady Grove | SG 7E622

Rhys Lossman, M.S., joined DCEG in August 2026 as a postbaccalaureate fellow in the Biostatistics Branch (BB) under the mentorship of Li C. Cheung, Ph.D.

Ms. Lossman earned an M.S. in mathematics and statistics from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., in May 2026. During her graduate training, Ms. Lossman worked on research projects using machine learning methods to classify molecular subtypes of breast cancer, with the aim of balancing model efficiency and performance.

In BB, Ms. Lossman is developing multistate models for the natural history of cancers with precursor states, such as multiple myeloma and oral cavity cancer. A better understanding of cancer progression from precursor states may help guide biomarker discovery, secondary prevention, and early detection.
