Mitchell Galyen, B.A., joined DCEG in June 2026 as a postbaccalaureate fellow in the Clinical Genetics Branch (CGB) under the mentorship of Sharon A. Savage, M.D.

Mr. Galyen earned a B.A. in biochemistry from Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois, in 2026.

During his undergraduate training, Mr. Galyen conducted summer research at Baylor College of Medicine on how SPOP gene mutations disproportionately affect prostate cancer in African American populations.

In CGB, Mr. Galyen is conducting clinical and molecular epidemiology investigations of telomere biology disorders. His work focuses on exploring how telomere biology and inherited genomic variants influence cancer risk, genetic predisposition, and clinical outcomes. He also contributes to projects using the global TP53 database and investigations within the clinical Inherited Bone Marrow Failure Syndromes (IBMFS) Study. Through his work on the TP53 database and the clinical IBMFS Study, he seeks to translate molecular findings into a deeper understanding of hereditary cancer syndromes.
