Keerthana Ramanathan, B.S.
Keerthana Ramanathan, B.S., joined DCEG in August 2026 as a postbaccalaureate fellow in the Clinical Genetics Branch (CGB) under the mentorship of Lisa Mirabello, Ph.D.
Ms. Ramanathan earned a B.S. in human science with a minor in government from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.
During her undergraduate training, Ms. Ramanathan conducted research in the laboratory of Dr. Richard Schlegel on topical therapies for human papillomavirus (HPV)-driven cervical precancer. She also completed an honors thesis examining HPV prevention and broader patterns in population health.
In CGB, Ms. Ramanathan is investigating HPV viral genome variation and its relationship to the risk of cervical precancer and cancer, with a particular emphasis on HPV-18 and HPV-35 genotypes. By examining patterns of viral genetic variation, her work aims to contribute to a better understanding of factors that may help explain differences in disease risk among individuals infected with high-risk HPV.
