Dr. Karena Volesky joined the Infections and Immunoepidemiology Branch (IIB) as a postdoctoral fellow in August 2022. She earned a Ph.D. in epidemiology from McGill University, Montreal, Canada. For her doctoral dissertation Dr. Volesky quantified the burden of infection-attributable cancers in Canada and the United States. She obtained an M.A. in public administration and M.S. in health science, technology and policy from Carleton University, Ottawa, Canada.

In IIB, Dr. Volesky is examining cancer and mortality outcomes among people living with HIV and solid organ transplant recipients under the mentorship of Eric A. Engels, M.D., M.P.H., Branch Director and senior investigator.
