Katherine (Katie) Stang, B.A., began a postbaccalaureate fellowship in the Laboratory of Translational Genomics (LTG) in May 2026 under the mentorship of Laufey Amundadottir, Ph.D.

Ms. Stang earned a B.A. in biology from Hood College in Frederick, Maryland, in May 2025.

Prior to joining DCEG, Ms. Stang studied feline papillomavirus in African lions and other large cats under the direction of Dr. Meredith Yeager, former DCEG CGR director, at Hood College. Following graduation, she volunteered in Dr. Yeager’s lab over the summer before joining DCEG as a volunteer in Dr. Michael Dean’s lab in August 2025. In Dr. Dean’s lab, she studied a selection of HPV-16 cell lines and analyzed sequences for abnormalities in polyadenylation, splicing, and human genome integration patterns.

In LTG, Ms. Stang is contributing to the lab’s pancreatic cancer research by investigating new genome-wide association study (GWAS) results to elucidate the functional biology of cancer risk variants.
