Dr. Giovanny Andres Herrera Ossa joined DCEG as a postdoctoral fellow in the Metabolic Epidemiology Branch (MEB) in January 2024. Dr. Herrera Ossa obtained a double Ph.D. in biomedical sciences from the Universidad del Rosario, Bogotá, Colombia, and Universidad de Salamanca, Spain in 2023. His doctoral research centered on exploring the intricate connection between the gut microbiome and Clostridioides difficile infection, employing both molecular and epidemiological approaches. Prior to joining DCEG, Dr. Herrera Ossa worked at the Universidad del Rosario, investigating the microbiome in different biological models.

In MEB, Dr. Herrera Ossa is working on projects focusing on the association between the human microbiome and cancer risk, especially cancers of the lung, colorectum, head/neck, and breast, under the mentorship of Emily Vogtmann, Ph.D., M.P.H., Earl Stadtman investigator. He is also working on methodologic studies to determine the best methods to collect, process, and analyze microbiome samples.
