Eric Hyde, Ph.D., M.P.H., joined DCEG as a postdoctoral fellow in the Metabolic Epidemiology Branch under the mentorship of Charles Matthews, Ph.D., senior investigator, in January 2025. He will be working on studies of physical activity behavior measurement and associations with cancer and other chronic conditions.

Prior to joining DCEG, Dr. Hyde was an epidemiologist at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention working on U.S. physical activity surveillance. He earned his Ph.D. in epidemiology at San Diego State University/University of California, San Diego in 2024, where he was a T32 fellow in the Integrated Cardiovascular Disease Epidemiology program.  His dissertation characterized the relationships of device-measured physical activity and sedentary behavior with healthy longevity among U.S. postmenopausal women.
