Kaelyn Burns, Ph.D, joined DCEG as a postdoctoral fellow in the Metabolic Epidemiology Branch (MEB) in June 2025. She earned
her Ph.D. in epidemiology from the University at Buffalo and holds a master's degree in nutrition from the University of Delaware. During her doctoral training, Dr. Burns studied diet-related mechanisms of cardiovascular disease by examining interactions among dietary patterns, metabolism, the microbiome, and vascular health.
As a postdoctoral fellow, Dr. Burns studies the associations between ultraprocessed foods, food additives, metabolism, and cancer risk under the mentorship of Emily Vogtmann, Ph.D., M.P.H. Her research integrates metabolomic and microbiome data into nutritional epidemiology studies to better understand the biological mechanisms underlying diet-cancer associations.
