Patrick S. Potoczak, B.S., joined DCEG as a predoctoral fellow in the Radiation Epidemiology Branch (REB) in July 2026. He earned a B.S. in evolutionary anthropology with highest honors from the University of Michigan in 2022 and is pursuing an M.D. with Special Qualification in Biomedical Research and an M.S. in nutrition at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine at Case Western Reserve University. During his training, Mr. Potoczak used in situ RNA hybridization and fluorescence microscopy to study the human placenta, developed methods for preserving placental specimens in low-resource settings, and investigated disparities in postmastectomy breast reconstruction.

As a predoctoral fellow, Mr. Potoczak works under the mentorship of Elizabeth K. Cahoon, Ph.D., investigating the relationship between dietary factors, including coffee consumption, and the risk of cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma using data from the U.S. Radiologic Technologists (USRT) cohort.
