Cancer Screening, Causal Inference, Risk Prediction, and Health Disparities Postdoctoral Fellowship

Hormuzd Katki, Ph.D., a senior investigator in the Biostatistics Branch, is seeking an applicant with training in epidemiology or biostatistics for various epidemiologic or methodologic projects.
Epidemiologic Research
- Developing novel individualized prediction models for use in cancer screening, and understanding their implications for algorithmic fairness and screening guidelines
- Quantifying socioeconomic and racial/ethnic/gender disparities in cancer risk and in screening
- Use of diagnostic tests and AI algorithms in cancer screening
Biostatistical Research
- Causal inferential approaches to cancer screening and to health disparities research, focusing on heterogeneity of treatment/exposure effects
- Methods for improving external validity of cohort and trial analyses, by incorporating data from surveys, GIS, and electronic health records
- Methods for cancer screening trials for multicancer early detection (MCED) tests
Goal
The potential candidate will be part of an interdisciplinary team of epidemiologists, laboratory scientists, bioinformaticians, and biostatisticians. The NCI’s Division of Cancer Epidemiology and Genetics (DCEG) has a long tradition of conducting large-scale, population-based studies and has excellent resources for microbiome sample handling, bioinformatics, and statistical analyses. Qualifications
Individuals must either hold, or expect to soon attain, a doctorate degree in epidemiology or biostatistics. A successful candidate will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, be self-motivated, and able to work in an interdisciplinary team. Salary and benefits are highly competitive and commensurate with experience.
