Occupational and Environmental Molecular Epidemiology Studies Postdoctoral Fellowship

Work with Qing Lan, Ph.D, M.P.H. and Nathaniel Rothman, M.D., M.P.H.

Position Description

The Occupational and Environmental Epidemiology Branch (OEEB) of the NCI is seeking postdoctoral fellows interested in working on environmental molecular epidemiological studies of lung cancer and lymphoid and myeloid malignancies; environmental and occupational molecular epidemiology studies of chemicals including benzene and TCE and particulates from a variety of combustion sources including indoor coal burning, indoor wood burning, diesel engine exhaust, and outdoor air pollution; and nested case-control studies of molecular biomarkers and lung cancer and lymphoid and myeloid malignancies within prospective cohorts. This fellowship is under the mentorship of Qing Lan, M.D., Ph.D., M.P.H and Nat Rothman, M.D., M.P.H.

Candidates should possess a strong background in epidemiology and/or statistical analysis, as well as excellent writing skills. We have ongoing studies of indoor air pollution, genetic susceptibility, and lung cancer, as well as studies evaluating the etiology of lung cancer in non-smoking women and the etiology of lymphoid and myeloid malignancies. In addition, we use a wide variety of omic technologies and exposomic approaches in our studies including metabolomics, gene expression, miRNA, microbiomics, methylation, genome-wide association studies (GWAS), and next generation sequencing. There are opportunities to work on existing projects as well as new initiatives on the potential carcinogenic effects in humans from exposure to microplastics, electric vehicle battery manufacturing, and extreme weather–related exposures. There are also opportunities to develop new research projects on environmental and occupational risk factors using cross-sectional, case-control, and prospective cohort study designs. For further information about this position, please contact Dr. Lan (email: qingl@mail.nih.gov).
