Kara Barnao, M.S., joined DCEG as a postbaccalaureate fellow in the Integrative Tumor Epidemiology Branch (ITEB) in August 2023 following a summer internship. Prior to joining DCEG, Ms. Barnao participated in a summer research fellowship at the Jackson Laboratory assisting in the characterization of their patient-derived xenograft collection. She earned her B.S. in biological sciences from Salve Regina University in Newport, Rhode Island, in 2021. She completed her M.S. in individualized genomics and health from the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, in 2024.

In ITEB, Ms. Barnao is working on investigating the role of co-occurring clonal hematopoiesis on various phenotypes, such as hematologic parameters and malignancies under the mentorship of Mitchell Machiela, Sc.D., M.P.H.
