Shahriar Zamani, Ph.D., (he/him), joined DCEG as a postdoctoral Cancer Prevention Fellow in the Radiation Epidemiology Branch (REB) in August 2023. Dr. Zamani earned a B.S. in public health from the University of South Florida, Tampa, in 2018 and a Ph.D. in oncology in May 2023 from the University of Cambridge, England, where he was a Gates Scholar. His dissertation work focused on the role of environmental, lifestyle, and genomic factors in the etiology and outcomes of esophageal adenocarcinoma.
In REB, he is examining germline variants in relation to subsequent neoplasms after radiotherapy for childhood cancer and also is focusing on characterizing the genomic landscape of thyroid malignancies occurring after the Chernobyl nuclear power plant accident, under the mentorship of Lindsay Morton, Ph.D.
