Oscar Florez-Vargas Named Human Genetics Scholar by American Society of Human Genetics

Oscar Florez-Vargas

Oscar Florez-Vargas, Ph.D., M.Sc., research fellow in the Laboratory of Translational Genomics was selected as a 2023-2025 Human Genetics Scholar by the American Society of Human Genetics (ASHG). The Human Genetics Scholars Initiative was developed to advance diversity and inclusion in the human genetics research workforce. This initative is supported by the National Human Genome Research Institute, Biogen, GlaxoSmithKline, Merck & Co, and Roche.

Over the course of the two-year, intensive program, each scholar receives ASHG membership, registration, travel, and hotel accommodation for two ASHG Annual Meetings, a dedicated mentor, support in identifying and building other potential mentor relationships, and enrichment funds for qualified career development of their choosing.
