Alexander Keil Awarded Scientific Tenure by the NIH

, by Jennifer K. Loukissas, M.P.P.

Alexander Keil, Earl Stadtman Investigator in OEEB

In December, Alexander Keil, Ph.D., M.S.P.H., was awarded scientific tenure by the NIH and promoted to senior investigator in the Occupational and Environmental Epidemiology Branch. Dr. Keil is an internationally recognized methodologist known for his application of causal inference principles to develop methods for understanding the effects of chronic exposure to workplace hazards and exposure mixtures on health.

Since joining the NCI in 2022, Dr. Keil has made tremendous contributions to several critical studies, including the application of novel methods to correct for healthy worker survivor bias in a large study of workers with long-term exposure to acrylonitril. His findings suggest previous reports of the association with lung cancer mortality may have been underestimated.

Dr. Keil earned an M.S.P.H. and Ph.D. in epidemiology from the University of North Carolina (UNC) at Chapel Hill. He also completed a postdoctoral fellowship and served as a research assistant professor at UNC.
