Shanghai Biliary Tract Cancer Case-Control Study

The Shanghai Biliary Tract Cancer (BTC) Case-Control Study is a population-based case-control study of 627 BTC cases (368 gallbladder, 191 extrahepatic bile duct, 68 ampulla of Vater), 1,037 patients with biliary stones, and 959 population-based controls recruited from June 1997 through May 2001 in Shanghai, China. The primary aim of the study was to investigate the etiology of biliary tract cancers. Its collection of data and biospecimens facilitates cross-sectional evaluation of biologic markers and epidemiologic risk factors for gallbladder, extrahepatic bile duct, and ampulla of Vater cancers.
