2024 AACR Annual Meeting: A Summary of DCEG's Participation
, by Jennifer K. Loukissas, M.P.P.
Earlier this month, DCEG scientists presented their research at the 2024 American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) Annual Meeting in San Diego, California. In addition to dozens of posters, there were several invited talks and workshops.
Excitingly, the Connect for Cancer Prevention Study debuted to the scientific community at a presentation by Nicolas Wentzensen, M.D., Ph.D., M.S., Deputy Director and senior investigator in the Clinical Genetics Branch, and principal investigator of Connect, to the Population Sciences Working Group, and two informational sessions held at the NCI booth in the exhibit hall given by Connect Senior Scientist Mia M. Gaudet, Ph.D., in the Trans-divisional Research Program.

Among the posters were two that received awards:
- Batel Blechter, Ph.D., M.A., postdoctoral fellow in the Occupational and Environmental Epidemiology Branch (OEEB), received the AACR-Gilead and Kite Scholar-in-Training Award for her poster entitled, "Polygenic risk score and lung adenocarcinoma risk among never-smokers by EGFR mutation status."
- Shahriar A. Zamani, Ph.D., postdoctoral fellow in the Radiation Epidemiology Branch, received an AACR Scholar-in-Training Award presented by AACR-Doreen J. Putrah Cancer Research Foundation, for his poster entitled, "Germline variants in cancer susceptibility genes and subsequent neoplasm risks after childhood cancer: A pooled analysis of two large-scale cohorts."
The annual meeting is also a time to reconnect with colleagues, mentors, and alumni. Browse the image carousel to see photographs of DCEG staff at the meeting, with several cameos from alumni.
