, by Elise Tookmanian, Ph.D.

Headshot of Meredith Shiels

In April 2024, Meredith Shiels, Ph.D., M.H.S., senior investigator in the Infections and Immunoepidemiology (IIB) Branch was elected to serve as a DCEG Women Scientist Advisor (WSA) for a term of three years. She will represent DCEG women scientists on the NIH WSA committee, alongside current DCEG WSAs, Laura Beane Freeman, Ph.D., senior investigator in the Occupational and Environmental Epidemiology Branch and Marie-Josèphe Horner, Ph.D., staff scientist in the Trans-Divisional Research Program. The NIH WSA committee was formed in 1993 with advisors from each intramural institute and center and aims to raise awareness of issues facing women scientists and to work towards improving women’s representation in the NIH faculty at all levels.

Dr. Shiels succeeds Aimée R. Kreimer, Ph.D., senior investigator in IIB, who served in this role since 2021.
