2024 Society for Epidemiologic Research Annual Meeting Attended by DCEG Scientists

In June, scientists from across DCEG attended the 2024 Society for Epidemiologic Research (SER) Annual Meeting in Austin, Texas. Diane Wigfield, fellowship coordinator in the Office of Education, was also in attendance to promote the DCEG Fellowship Program

Caroline N. Pruitt, M.P.H., postbaccalaureate fellow in the Occupational and Environmental Epidemiology Branch (OEEB), received the Kathy Rose Travel Scholarship, sponsored by SER and DLH Holdings Corporation. Dr. Kathryn (Kathy) Rose was a lead epidemiologist at Social & Scientific Systems, a division of DLH Holdings Corporation, and research assistant professor in epidemiology at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, from 2001 to 2010. She is fondly remembered as an amazing mentor and colleague who loved thinking about the complex problems of the world through an epidemiologic lens.

Aleah Thomas, B.S., postbaccalaureate fellow in the Trans-Divisional Research Program, Shyfuddin Ahmed, Ph.D., M.P.H., and Jun Tao, Ph.D., both postdoctoral fellows in the Infections and Immunoepidemiology Branch (IIB), staff scientist Gabriella Andreotti, M.P.H., Ph.D., and Earl Stadtman investigator Alexander Keil, Ph.D., M.S.P.H., both in OEEB, and Cato Milder, Ph.D., M.S.P.H., postdoctoral fellow in the Radiation Epidemiology Branch, all presented posters. Dr. Keil also presented a poster for his mentee, Maria E. Kamenetsky, Ph.D., postdoctoral fellow in OEEB.

Ms. Pruitt, Anika T. Haque, M.P.H., scientific program analyst in IIB, and Lauren Hurwitz, Ph.D., M.H.S., staff scientist in OEEB, gave oral presentations. Meredith Shiels, Ph.D., M.H.S., senior investigator in IIB, moderated a session on, "Cancer Epidemiology – Pregnancy and Novel Screening Approaches."
