DCEG Investigators Participate in "Measuring Estrogen Exposure and Metabolism" Workshop

In March, DCEG investigators participated in a workshop titled “Measuring Estrogen Exposure and Metabolism,” held in Bethesda, Maryland. The workshop provided an opportunity for experts to discuss how to improve and standardize methods for assessing estrogen exposure and metabolism in both epidemiologic and clinical research. A major focus was the need for improved methods for breast cancer research, prevention, and treatment. The workshop closed with the development of guiding principles for future research directions and clinical guidelines; summaries and conclusions will be published in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism. Individual presentations will be published in the journal Steroids.
Regina G. Ziegler, Ph.D., M.P.H., co-chaired the workshop along with Dr. Laurence M. Demers, Penn State College of Medicine, and Dr. Richard J. Santen, University of Virginia. DCEG fellow Zeina Khodr, Ph.D., earned an award for her poster “Associations between circulating hormones and terminal duct lobular unit involution of the normal breast,” which was among the top five posters submitted.
