Advisory Group Recommends Agents for Review by International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC)
, by DCEG Staff
The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), part of the World Health Organization, published recommendations from an independent Advisory Group convened to prioritize agents for review by the IARC Monographs programme. The recommendations appeared in the journal The Lancet Oncology on April 18, 2019.
The Group, comprised of 29 scientists from 18 countries, reviewed 170 agents (chemicals, viruses, drugs, lifestyles) to develop recommendations of high, medium, or low priority for review by the IARC Monographs programme during the period 2020-2024. DCEG sent two experts to the meeting, Robert N. Hoover, M.D., Sc.D., director of the Epidemiology and Biostatistics Program, and senior investigator and Chief of the Radiation Epidemiology Branch, Amy Berrington, D.Phil, who served as vice chair of the three-day meeting.
